Don't worry if I get it, I'll have lots of questions. As far as getting it, it is looking good I've just about got the basement reno's finished and I still have money left so keep your fingers crossed.

It depends on the condition. The rings may just be stuck or there might be some scale in the cylinders. Just the top 2 rings on a Flathead like to stick to the piston really good.

If you're lucky all you have to do is to pour forign liuids into the cylinders and then put pressure on the motor to rotate.
Depending on the pistons anything from motor oil, to Diesel fuel, to table vinegar should be used. Pretty much any liuid except modern gasoline or water will help unseize a motor.

Thats the easy part though, valves are always interesting.

The last two motors I worked on we poured diesel fuel into the cylinders and let them soak for a few days and the pistons freed up with no problem at all. On another note I fired up the Mercury this afternoon. No problems at all, pulled the choke and pumped the gas and she fired right up. It hasn't run since last October.

Diesel in the cylinders, works well. Ive used it on smaller motors, and even a tranny one time that was seized.

Well the first step for corner would be to remove the plugs and see the condition, (colour and corrision on the plugs) then we will have a idea of what we are up against.
