This may sound stupid, but I've had an issue with my shifter (2001 5.4L auto), ever since I got the truck: when I put it in reverse, it takes a while for the trans to actually engage? What does that mean? Does everyone have this? Is there a fix?
Got 2001 F250SD 5.4L with over 200,000 miles. Never noticed mine doing the same. I can rock mine back and forth in a mud hole repeatly as fast as I can shift it and no delay.
i assume you checked your trans. fluid to make sure its full.I had a slight shudder & delay in reverse only on my 05 F350 4x4 lariat from almost new.Had back to dealer and they said could not duplicate problem. There is a re-programming TSB out on problem, but Dealer did the re-prog.-Did not help. At 39,000mi I lost reverse totally.Dealer sold me an extended warranty for $500.00 and I got a new trans. My 5.4 engine toasted on this vehicle at 6,200 mi. on a snowmobile trip to Quebec. With the engine, trans. & death wobble problems I'm off the Ford bandwagon.I am an A-plan buyer. It was my 3rd super-duty,other 2 were great.Wife drives a 06 limited Explorer & loves it but her tranny is getting funky at 32,000 mi.I ordered an 07 2500HD GMC, going to pick up in 2 weeks.Told the wife if it does'nt blow an engine & trans in 39k I have to be better off.I own an ASE certified repair shop,10 bays 7 techs. Good Luck L-N-OR with your trans.
I have a 2002 5.4 with an auto .... and it engages right away.
You may have an internal transmission problem concerning fluid movement.
Sometimes when you wait to do an auto trans repair, what could have been a relatively inexpensive repair, turns into some major rebuilding work. You don't want those clutch packs going dry.
yeah ive never had that problem with my 04.dean01 sorry to hear your problems. soon enough we will see you back =). got one of the bad of the bunch bud..
