I have an 82 f250 with dual fuel tanks. What fuel tanks will interchange with it. I know there is a 80-86 f150 short bed with dual tanks. Will it fit my truck? I got a long bed though. Will the regular front tank from a long bed truck fit my front tank? Will any other year of truck interchange?
I think the short bed front tank is 16 gal and is to short to fit a fullsize bed.the rear tank should be the same but some tanks used different size holes for the sender and pick up tubes.you can put a bronco tank in the rear also if you can get all the mounting brackets and hardware,I think they were 30+ gal tanks.I agree you should just put a new tank in then go thru all the trouble of pulling out the old tank, with all the problems ford has with leaking tanks you don't know what you are going to get.
These trucks are famous for the top of the tank rusting out were it lays up against the crossmember. You will be lucky to find a used tank that is in good shape. You will then have to clean the old tank out, since it's probably full of old fuel and rust, which will give you carb problems.
I went to the junk yard and got the front tank out of a f350 2wd and fit great. When I pulled the new tank, it was completely full of gas and was in perfect condition. The tank only cost me $40 and I got $30 of free clean gas. I put the new tank in and no problems. I might go back and see if I can get that bronco tank. So, all I need is the straps for that tank?
Anyway, if you use the Bronco tank, get ALL the mounting hardware, hoses, etc. If you don't wind up using them all, then it's no biggie, but if you get it halfway in and realize you're missing something you need, that's one HUGE pain in the tailgate.
