I have a 97 F150 6 cylinder standard transmission. Today when i started it, it started making a severe knocking sound as soon as I started the truck. This increased in speed and intensity as I gave it gas. I drove it around the block and it knocked severely the entire time and louder anytime I accelerated. It would slow down when i slowed down. This started today and hadnt done this ever before. The truck has 90,000 miles and has just had a tuneup recently. Any ideas what it might be or what to do? Im taking it in tomorrow to my mechanic but would appreciate any suggestions or ideas on what I can expect the problem to be and potential costs.
Thanks for any insight.
Any estimates on about what that might cost to fix? Also should I just have it towed with it making this noise or risk doing more damage y driving it. Thanks for the input.
Your lower intake gaskets have failed and let coolant into one or more cylinders and caused hydrolock. Most likely has bent a rod.I see a new engine in your future.
