i am about to get dual exhaust on my 90 bronco. i have heard from a mechanic that i will burn up my valves. i cant understand why my valves would burn up. can anyone explain why this might happen?
what the mechanic is talking about is, if there is not enough back pressure from your exhaust then your valves will not close all the way causing them to "burn up" Are you planning on running true duals or running a y-pipe and spliting them up that way? If you are going to just run a y-pipe then you will be fine. I am not sure about true duals, this might cause a lack of back pressure.
I wouldnt worry if I were you. The way you could burn a valve is by running open HEADERS at idle for a long time. You will have plenty of back pressure with true duals. I would also ask about a H or X pipe to balance the pressure. What state are you in, rember check local laws for SMOG stuff.
How is this possible? Everything I look at says that Bronco's can't fit a Dual exhaust. IS this going to be a custom job please post details as to how you got it done? I am interestedin running duals.
Any vehicle can have duals on it, it's just a matter of finding a competant pipe bender that's willing to take the time to bend a custom set. Around here the most common setup is to run a y-pipe behind the cat with no muffler. Sounds funny to me though.
It is possible. On my 86 the guy who had it before me had true duals custom built. Even the long tube headers were custom built. When I bought the truck the welds from the job didnt even have rust on the yet. I think it cost him about $350. I have the reciept if you want me to find it. The only thing that looked like it was a hassle was going around the trans. case. Mine exist out the back coners. Dave
I'm not sure where you heard that dual exhaust on a bronco is impossible. ive found some headers from hedman that will work. you should try to go to their site its set up nice so u can find exactly what u want.(www.hedman.com) im not sure if they will fit without modifications though. i have also heard that mustang shorty headers work out good. i will let u know how it works out. as for the actual duals just find a reputable exhaust shop (not auto air muffler brake city) and they should have a pipe bender just for that. im not sure whether im gonna have em go out right before the rear tires or out the back i havent decided
The info I received came from catalogs like summit, P.A.W., and jegs. They will sell headers but there is no dual kits for Broncos listed. Plus I don't see too many Ford 4x4's with duals in my area unless there older. Now as soon as I get the engine rebuilt or replaced, I will be getting duals.
Kyle3455 Don't go straight out the back, the fumes when running w/ the back window down get to you in a HURRY. Had mine changed to 45deg exits behind the tires, smells better :-)

I just had Hedman TEMS -shorty headers- installed on my 94 and kept the stock Y pipe. I had the 2 tubes cut right before going into the first cat and dropped everything back from there. I had 2 tubes run into a Flowmaster DeltaFlow 50. Dual in, Dual out. It works like an X pipe, balancing out the flow. The system follows the stock route except for the new outlet, I got a custom bend going over the rear axle out behind the left wheel. works and sounds like nothing else. Rumbles and Roars. Mean. Like my 72 Olds Cutless Supreme 350. plus it is quieter inside than the stock was. Im very happy with it. If you want, I can send you a picture of it. ...It cost me $479 for parts and labor. Go to real shop, not Midas or anyplace like that. Oh, I got the headers through Summit for $179. So the total total was $658. It is worth it.
I have a 90 with duals. The Y-pipe is cut from the original location. I have shorty headers. The left header runs to a 2 1/2" pipe that turns just before the trans, runs to the right pipe. They mate with a 1" equalization pipe. The pipes then run parallel to eachother until after the T-Case, where they split up and exit out the rear side in what is considered a stock location. I have no emmission equipment on my vehicle.
The entire system is stainless. It was custom made 6 years ago, and cost me $600 back then.
Your mechanic has no clue...
Yes...No Cats. They were shot after running gas with lead in them in Guam, so I ditched them. My truck isnt street legal in Hawaii anyways, and I wont be going back to the Mainland anytime soon, so away they went. Now I have a useless airpump and smog equipment. I am going to leave all that in case I get stationed back on the Mainland. The first photo of the two new tubes going onto the Y pipes is where the first cat was. I was able to keep the oxygen sensor so It works the same as before. You can install headers and keep the cats, they have fittings for the air tube from the first cat. personal preference. But man does it run now!
