I have a 1998 Expedition and my switch on the column that controls the overdrive stopped working. Has anyone had this same problem? If so, what remedied the problem?
I have no other tranny problems other then the button not working. Drives fine at 125,--- miles.
ARe you sure the light isnt just burned out for the "Off" illumination?
On my 95 F150, the OD button stopped working, and I went to the dealer, picked up a new "Collar" at the end of the shifter and a new button, for less than 50 bucks. Takes around 5 minutes to put in, (plus adult beverage consumption of course)
you prob already know this, but i'm just covering the bases: you'll only notice a difference with o/d on/off when you're driving over ~40 (or whenever it is that o/d kicks in).
Yeah. It hasn't worked in a year or so and I have not really checked into it a whole lot because I do not pull trailers all that often. I would have assumed that at least someone reading this forum would have ran into this same problem!
There are two TINY wires going to the button, through the shifter lever assembly. They are mounted to a small plastic bracket on top of the column, under the cover. This is where they like to break. You'll notice the replacement shifter level wires are a little bit longer between the lever and this bracket.
Not a big deal to replace... remove the column covers, unplug the wires, pop the bracket loose, tap out the pin and slide the lever off.
