Driving question

Recently I have been feeling a sudden jerk while im driving. It sometimes happens when I accelerate and when im coasting. Have no clue to what it is. Is it a "transmission slip"? Thanks for the input.

are you doing about 40 mph and giving the pedal a little bit of gas? ~40 is when the tranny shifts into O/D and you might be confusing the computer and it could be shifting to O/D and out

It could be that adaptive shift control-tranny getting a bit "confused" on what you're trying to ask of it....See post #2

in all my older Fords that were auto, I turned the O/D off around town. My Mustang is especially bad about this. My truck hasn't done it yet though. Plus, the torque converter stays locked up when you ahve the O/D off. Plus gives you a little more "go" from the stop light

When you take it out of OD or "Lock it out", I don't believe it does anything but disable OD or 4th gear. Its good to take it out at slow speeds or windy hill road. I don't think it gives it more "go" or does anything with the torque converter.

maybe...maybe not. I do know there is a noticeable difference when the O/D (4th gear if you prefer) is turned off. My Mustang and my F-150 have a little something extra when I do it.

locking out O/D will fix the jumping sensation though. Just be sure to turn it back on when you get on the highway.

rear ended

I've noticed a couple of times with my '05, if I've almost come to a stop at a red light, and then it turns green, giving it gas makes a slight clunk. The first time I thought I got rear ended, had to pull over and take a look. I think its just deciding what gear to go into, and I confused it.

Dirty transmission fluid can do that going into overdrive too. I notice you have an 04, so it may have enough miles to warrant a trans service?

I would replace the filter in the trans and have it flushed.

You should check the tranny fluid. There should not be a problem with keeping the trans in O/D when you are driving. The only time you might have a problem, is hauling a heavy load, or towing. Then you need to get out of O/D, to keep the trans from hunting.
