Random stalling... help...

OK... After I ran my truck on the dyno at BD last weekend I went to back the truck off the dyno.... it stalled.... it had never done that before... Then I backed up a bit, put my foot on the clutch again, and it stalled...

Drove the truck home that night, it was OK, drove the truck last Sunday and it was OK....

Took the truck out thursday night, and got fuel... also added a good dose of additive ( running howes ) knowing it had stalled....

Today I took the truck out... Drove it a block, stoped, went to back up, stalled... it stalled 4 times more when moving around in parking lots, it stalled once when I put my foot on the clutch doing 100 KM/H ( 60 MPH)

On my adventure today I got a new fridge for our house. I waited for my wife to get home to help me move it... I went out to move the truck and it stalled 4 times in a row in front of our house...

Here is what has been done to the truck...

- new lift pump
- injector return line caps, O rings, and lines
- new fuel filter and raycor filter 3000 KMs ago

never let my tank go below half as the gauge does not work below half, always runs Howes additive in each tank....

Is my IP on its way out?? seem to still have good power, no more somke than normal, maybe a slight decrease in milage....

Any thoughs... run a few more tanks of double dosed additives and see what happens????

Thanks guys!

Mr. Bob,
Your comment about pushing the clutch in at 100 km/h and stalling it doesn't sound right at all. I don't have a manual in my truck so have never delved into the workings of it, but that doesn't seem right. A neutral/clutch safety switch should prevent starting, I'd guess by not allowing power to the starter relay/solenoid, but unless there is some kind of interaction with the FSS & the clutch switch I can't put a finger on it stalling once started & driving.

Try taking a close look at the wiring first. Check under the dash around the clutch pedal for any wires that may be hanging up and/or loose. Make sure the connection at the IP are clean and tight. If you can get it to die while jiggling wires, you've found the problem...

I guess to best describe it, it seems like as the RPMs come down the just keep going... its not like I hit the clutch and it stalls instantly, but rather as the RPMs decrease from say 2000 down towards 600 ( idle ) as normal, but rather than stoping at 600 they just continue to fall untill in stalls...

I will wiggle connections at the IP, Im going to lift my raycor out and see what it looks like, and test fuel pressure at the lift pump...

Thanks guys!

That doesn't sound as much like an electrical problem now that you describe it, unless it always happens only when you push in the clutch I think you may be right suspecting fuel problems. How many miles (oops "kanadian miles") on the IP?

If your IP is acting up, you might have luck running a fuel filter full of additive through it when you check it out. Any one else thinking this?

The IP is unknown... I have had the truck for almost a year.....

I changed the engine in Feb, and when I was done I had a REALLY bad lack of power... I swaped this IP and injectors over to the engine I am currently running and that seemed to solve my problems...

The truck just put 136 HP to the ground with 35" tires and 3.55 gears, is getting great milage and does not seem to smoke more than normal... I think the IP is still happy, but who knows....

I will pull the raycor out and see... then drain it... fill full of cleaner and giver a shot...
