I have a 1970 f250. Just wondering if a 73 to 79 tailgate will fit, and if it lines up with the body lines of the 70? It looks more finished to me than a 70 tailgate.

Look up a tailgate in the parts catalog for a 64/66 styleside, and you will see the prefix of C7TZ, not C4TZ. I remember when Ford did this back in 1967 (pays to old sometimes). As far as the 73 tailgate being used on a 64/72, the hinges, pivots, side latches and strikers are the same. But I really don't know if the tailgates interchange.
There's more changes between the just the letters on 64/66 gates as opposed to 67/72. The 67/72 has an ovate raised scallop line that circles the letters. The 64/66's have a different pattern above and below the letters. Personally I wish ppl would just leave things alone. We are more than just owners of these old rides, we are saving them for future generations. I prefer 'em stock and unmolested, not all hashed up, with parts from this or that swapped around.

They will interchange, but the look is not appealing. My brother's '76 came with a '68-ish tailgate on it. Ugly, but I think the older tailgate is beafier.
No, not Courier, its a 1983/ Ranger tailgate, and the seller has been informed his listing is in-correct. Wonder if the seller will change the listing?

So...... the tailgate will bolt up, latch appropriately, but the body lines may or may not line up. Can anyone post a pic or a link to a pic of a truck of either body style with a swapped tailgate?
