Fuel economy while towing this weekend

I towed a 6750lb boat to Dallas from Houston and got 12.3 mpg loaded @ 70mph with cruise control , and 18.2 mpg @ 75mph cruise control on the way back. I think that these are respectable #'s. It seems that this truck gets the same MPG whether you are towing 5k or 10k. What I did like is that fact that I could use cruise control @ 70MPH loaded.

wow

you got more mileage going faster, thats impressive. My 2005 gets about 13 with a superchips on towing at 70 cruise control, and with a 3.5k enclosed trailer. what mods do you have?

I think he towed the boat to Dallas, dropped it off and then came back with no boat and got the 18.2 mileage......I suspect. Is that correct REELNAUTI4U??

I just got back from a trip to NH (helped move the daughter & her family back to WV) and I pulled a tandem axle car hauler carring my 5x10 utility trailer full of HHG. My mpg dropped from 14.9 to 14.6. To say the least I'm pretty damn happy!

I'm guessing I was pulling around 6k and the truck just kept screaming along at 75+. I wound up having to set the cruise so that I wouldn't attract the attention of those guys in unmarked cars (Bear down hard Mr. Garcia, you're signing through three copies) LOL.

I bet you can get more mileage if you didn't use the cruise control. The torque converter will not lock up in OD when in cruise control. You will notice some improvement both empty and loaded (the truck not the driver)

If you drive your truck at hwy speeds and you turn on the cruise control your torque converter will unlock and your rpm's will increase slightly. You can check by applying the throttle and the rpm's will increase and then the TC will lock again and rpm's will drop because your CC is now disengaged. For some reason the newer 6.0 trucks will not allow TC lockup while the cruise control is activated. I messed around with it on my last trip and my mileage went from 17.9 in CC to 19.3 out of CC on level hwy. I hope this explains it more clearly.
