2001 Ranger Keys
A $0.99 cent WallyWorld duplicate will unlock the door & get you into the vehicle & start it.
If you have the securi-lock anti-theft system, the $0.99 cent key will still get you into the vehice, but you can't start it, UNLESS the programmed key is close by, in the cab!!!!
SO, if you don't care about the anti-theft system, just tape the programmed key out of the way, out of sight, close to the ignition switch & buy as many $0.99 spare keys as you like & drive up a storm!!!! lol
If you have the securi-lock antitheft system & you want to maintain your anti-theft protection, you can buy a repacement chipped key/s on Ebay & take it to a Dealer, or locksmth & pay for reprogramming.
As sorensenj said, you need at least two preprogrammed keys, to be able to program more keys yourself.
So buy your spare key from Ebay, the Dealer, or a Locksmith & pay them to program it. I'd buy an extra key or two & program them yourself, using the instructions in your owners manual, or just tape the programmed key you have, inside the cab & buy & use the cheap keys for spares, if you think you don't need the anti-theft protection.
Just some more options for consideration.
You are able to trick the vehicle into thinking that key #1 is Key #3 in the slef-programming sequence, but it only holds the code for short periods.
Cougar makes a good point: buy two so you always have a couple of back-ups.
Jeez, these keys are getting expensive!
