MY 87 Bronco, stock with a 5.0 has a 2 problems, I'm thinking in the EFI. When starting cold, it'll start run for a minute or so then die. This will happen once maybe twice, then be okay. It also runs rough(nice technical term huh!) at idle. Like a stop light. It will go up and down btween 7-8000. It almost like it's missing. Never dies but... ANy ideas where to to start?
Joe, I would start with the most inexpensive thing first. Remove the air intake from the throttle body and clean the area around the butterfly valve. Carbon tends to build up here, and that causes an erratic idle. Don

Try checking your PCV valve. It may be stuck, or plugged up. They're cheap and easy to replace. Next would be the check on the idle air bypass valve, on the throttle body. It may be stuck, or carboned up. It's easy to remove (two screws). Clean it out with some Gumount. You may want to go to a dealer and get the $3 gasket for it.
Next thought is a plugged up EGR filter. The filter is under the plastic "hat" on your valve. You have to be ultra careful when trying to remove it, since ther is no replacement part, except for a new EGR valve. *caution* do this as a last resort.
If you get a Haynes manual, it tells how to get EEC error codes. If you do the procedure, you may get a code, telling you exactly what is wrong.
