87', 88', & 89' BroncoII Owners...FUEL PUMPS?
Just wondering if anybody has ever bypassed the High Pressure Pump on the Frame, yanked the Low Pressure Pump out of the Tank and Replaced it with another Pump rated at 40lbs. I don't know why Ford put 2 pumps in them but I'm intent on going to just 1. Thought some of you might have made this conversion already and any help you all could give me will sure be appreciated!

BroncoII Fuel Pumps?
87' thru 89' Bronco IIs' for some unknown reason were blessed by Ford with 2 fuel pumps. 1 low pressure pump in the Tank and a high pressure one on the Drivers side Frame. The one in the tank costs $80 and the one on the frame costs about $180. I'm wanting to replace both of them with just 1 in the tank that puts out the 40lbs thats needed to run the thing. I know this day & age they've bound to have a pump that will fit in the tank just like the old one but puts out the needed pressure. I really would like to know the reasoning behind Ford doing this but I think it was a really ridiculous thing to do. Anybody that knows a pump that would fit I'd appreciate hearing from you. Would save me a whole lotta time & trouble!

It is the same fuel setup as the 86-89 F-series trucks with one tank. The non-switching reservoir would not handle the higher pressure and I think the hole in the tank where the pump goes in is smaller in the 86-89 Fords.
That said and if true (about the hole) you would need a new fuel tank, fuel lines and an inline filter all the way to where the frame pump is now.
The in-tank pumps in 90 on trucks put out 95-100 psi and the fuel pressure regulator would also have to have the capability of bypassing that much gas back to the tank to hold the pressure under 45 psi.
