I have to do this over guys and girls because I mentioned the "F_ _ D" word... So For you people who think you drive an SUV take another look on your visor on the drivers side, thats right .. It says that vehicle is an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle).
Does anyone know when "F_ _ D" started doing this? I agree with the gentleman who says he hates the term SUV. Anyway, folks, I win many bets on this little tid bit of information. Happy Motoring !
if you think about it most "real" off-roaders use their vehicles for multiple purposes whether it's a truck or bronco, blazer .they use them for work , play , whatever. and 4x4 trucks are really more sport "utility" than a bronco. i call mine my truck more out of habit than anything else, but maybe it's really more that i don't like to be associated with the yuppies and soccer moms in their suv's who have never been and never will be truck enthusiasts like us. if their cadillac breaks you won't see them online trying to figure out how to fix their pride and joy, they probably could'nt check the oil if their lives depended on it , they would just trade it in on whatever g.q magazine says is the coolest new thing on the market.
These same people are generally brainwashed by motor trend and car and driver as well. Don't forget about what J.D powers tells them also. Where did that crap come from anyways? It seems to have just popped up out of nowhere.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

Same for me. I have always called my Bronco either "the truck" or "the bronco". I wouldn't sink low enough to call it an SUV. You're also right about the oil changing thing. I know lots of people (not all girls- mostly guys) who don't know how to do it.
I also call my bronco a "truck", and get mad when it's called an SUV. And yes I was one of those dumb a$$es that couldn't do anything under the hood. but after 6 months of owning a bronco, I can proudly say that I've learned a LOT about my TRUCK and what it takes to keep it running.
My title on my 90 also calls the Bronco a stationwagon. It's great for two reasons:
1) Insurance premiums
2) My SUV bashing sister, who's Subaru Forester is classified as an SUV, when it's really a station wagon. She pays the insurance, and I can call her a hypocrite (all in family fun of course).
Yeah, "The Truck" or "The Bronco" it is for my '93; although the Texas registration calls it a "2-DR PASS" (two-door passenger) vehicle - and the word "Truck" is missing from the licence plate!!
from our 96 bronco Owner's Manual:
"NOTICE TO OWNERS OF UTILITY-TYPE VEHICLES
As with other vehicles of this type, failure to
operate this vehicle correctly may result in loss
of control or an accident. Be sure to read the
Additional Special Driving Instructions for Utility
Vehicles in this book and the special supplement
included with four-wheel drive vehicles entitled
4-Wheeling with Ford."
just a utility vehicle?...what pencil pusher relegated these awesome Broncos to this? (prob the same that calls the explorers "4x4's")
