I was looking to get cams for my truck to go with my exhaust.....I plan on going with a comp cams grind # Xe262h-14 wich has an advertised duration of 262/270.....On summits web site under notes it says that i need bolt on cam gears where do i get these and how hard is the install if anyone has done it... This cam is mild and it says that it will work with the stock computer but if i get a programmer later on can i still program stuff so that it helps the cams out thanks for the help
Assuming you have a superduty. There is a good article on mod motor cam swaps online, I can't remember the site (but I think it was a 4.6L and mustang site.) From what I have been able to understand, the 5.4 doesn't take to well to the truck intake manifold and the top end cams available. So unless you have a new torque converter and low gears you will not get your moneys worth out of the swap.
Assuming you have a F250 or 350 of non-super duty markings, I never thought of 262 being a mild cam. For the small blocks, I think it is rather lopy and top end hp. I don't know about the 460. I think I have read in the FMS book that the 210s are the torque cams and 240+ are for building HP in the higher RPMs.
My thoughts both ways sence you left out info. There are tons of mods available, I'd susgest P&P heads/intake before cams in any case.
the truck is a stick so i wont have to worry about the torque converter and i have 4.10 gears now.. my final plan for the truck is exhaust, intake, small cam, programmer, front leveler and 35's....i wont put the 35's on until i do all the performance work cause it will be lazy as hell with the 5.4......... i was just wondering if i have to buy a different set of cam gears cause on summits page it has a note saying something about them..... Y is it that 5.4's dont take good to cams do they not show good power afterward or do they end up having mechanical proplems thanks for the help
Most of the cams seem to be designed around the short runners of the mustang intakes. The cams progressively move power higher in RPM, the truck intake manifold are long runners to provide more torque and are designed to operate at lower RPMs. I am in a similar predictiment, I don't think you will be very happy with the 4.10s and 35s even with those mods. I have the 3.73s and I can chirp second gear some times, but it's still very lazy. Your only 10% lower than I am (for now, I have 4.56 gears waiting.)
i was going to see how i liked the 4.10's with the 35's but if i didnt like it i was going to go with 4.56's...........It was either do a cam swap or i thought about puttin a blower on it but it seems kinsa pointless and that is a lot of work for something i dont really need.................
