headlight sealant

i have used silicone to seal up headlights and it lasts a little while but after a while it flakes off and there goes your headlight all fogged up . anybody got anything better than silicone.

What part of the headlight are you trying to seal? Silicone has a tendancy not to stick well to anything but itself for long term applications, especially if you're using a home depot type silicone. You could try a urethane sealant or one of the new polyether sealants (both sold in a caulk tube at construction distribution warehouses) but if "glue" anything together you'll have a hard time getting it back apart without breaking something. Make sure to clean all your parts before applying the sealant. Acetone usually works well.

I would consider replacing that headlight unit if it's leaking and admitting moisture. This removes the core of the problem and you don't have to mess with it again.
