fuel tank?

I just finished replacing the cab on my 76 ford f-250 4x4 the old cab had the fuel tank behind the seat the new cab doesnt I was going to put the fuel tank under the rear of the bed. I got looking last night and realized that there is a cross bar in the wayand if I move it to the rear I have nothing for the front of the tank to mount to

Any Ideas?

Common topic with the the 73-77.5 F250s 4x4s (Highboys). These trucks never came out with rear mounted fuel tanks. The frame is narrower than the 78/79s F250s. You'll need at least a tank that is less than 28 inches wide. And then the issue of possibly relocating that rear crossmember. Than have to make your own mounts. There are many threads about this topic. There will be some fabrication involved if you want to install a tank back there. Some people installed tanks from Bronco IIs, or Fuel Cells. If you do a search, you'll find some more different ideas. There is only one company that actually makes a 32 gal tank that is made for these trucks, but the downside is, they are about $500 for the tank. I plan on doing that route to be the easiest route, but expensive. I did have a diagram of that tank, but I can't find it.

I have thought about doing the turing sideways route and relocating the rear crossmember, but Then would have some tricky filler neck issues. Plus, the idea of making it look good. Also, with fuel cells, there will be filler neck issues. I think without a body lift, the 45 neck you can get won't fit under the bed. I have seen where people who have installed fuel cells just cut a hole in the floor of the bed so the neck comes up through the floor and you fill it that way.

Smaller tanks are easier to make work, but for many of us, a 19 gallon or less tank wouldn't be large enough. Many, Many trips to the pump.

Here is another thread about this:

I have been toying with the idea of just putting a fuel transfer tankcombo storage box in the bed of the truck and routing the fuel lines through the bed into the tank but cost is a factor

1965/66 Mustang (same as 64/65 Falcon) tanks are 14 gallon: C5ZZ-9002-A. 1967/68 Mustang tanks are 16 gallon: C7ZZ-9002-A. The later tanks C9ZZ, D0ZZ, D1ZZ are 20 gallon, but be careful when buying one, there are two types. The ones for evaporative emission have a large coffee can sized hole in them...you don't want that tank.

The frame must be different than the 2wd then because I had dual tanks in my 76 f250 supercab. Possibly the scab had a wider frame??

Fuel cell mounted in the tool box or alone in the rear of the bed.

Just remember that fuel cells aren't street legal. It will be more noticeable in the back of the box than underneath. Also, by putting it in the back, you take away from the space in the box. Just my thoughts.
