Hello Dave,

I actually believe I have been one of the few to resolve this problem, if no the only one! The problem was the stator on the distributor. Basically its you electrical link to you truck. I thought it was due to a speed range which led me to check everything from fuel pump to control module. However, it was due to engine temp, not speed. When the engine heated to operating temp the stator (which is pressed onto the distributor shaft) would expand and wobble on the shaft. This caused a temp loss of electrical connection making the truck buck like turning a light switch on & off. I actually left my truck at a very reputable shop for 2 weeks before they found the problem. The owner was driving it everywhere, finally one day it starting acting up on him & he almost didn't get it back to the shop. When he arrived it was acting up at idle while still warm. He yelled at his mechanics to get over & he said they worked like it was an ER to pinpoint the problem which ended up to be the stator.

Since the stator is pressed onto the distributor shaft it cannot be replaced. You'll have to replace the complete distributor.

Afterwards I had to make some other repairs to get my truck to 100%. The computer thought the problem was fuel related so it made the fuel mixture richer which in turn fried my O2 sensor and catalytic converter.

After the distributor, O2 sensor & catalytic converter were replaced my truck ran better then I could remember. Was like a new truck!

Also, since the problem was electrical the problem never showed up on the on board computer. The computer was going down with the rest of the electrical system when the stator was acting up.

Wow, thats awesome. I am planning to replace mine as well. I have gone over everything as you have and no luck. Maybe its time to replace an 18 year old distributor with 215k on it. Makes sense.
