My cheapo Headman gaskets blew out tonight with less than 300 miles! Front side by #1 blew out. Did I do something wrong or is it just cheap quality? Now that I gotta replace it, what should I use?
I'm assuming that since you have headers that your exhaust system does not have much back pressure. If you have something in the system causing pressure at the gasket, it can play hell with the gaskets...just blowing them out. My Sanderson's have only a thin bead of high heat silicone as recommended by the manufacturer. And I'm amazed at how well they have stayed sealed...literally,years.
I used mr.gasket material and made my own after the first set blew out after about a week of going to work have not had a problem since and that was about 2 months ago
I've been using headman gaskets with my headman headers for a year or so now, no problems.
I did have a problem at first, I installed them with the Felpro gaskets and that doesn't work, the header inlets didn't line up right with the gaskets and they would leak.
I've also been using headman gaskets/headers on my '65 Dodge Coronet with a 440 going on I think 8 or 9 years.
