ok my truck since day one has always made kind of a hissing sound when it was cold, kinda like it was letting precious air escape from the turbo.. but once it would warm up it would stop, and it also used to always kinda suond like it was bogging down when you would keep a steady throttle... now remember this was all in the cold... now it's warm, and it hasn't done this for awhile now... a couple months but it's doing it again.. but this time it sounds like it's bogging down A LOT!! like extremely loudly... i'm worried that it might be the turbo... anyone have any other ideas? fuel pump maybe? i need to replace that anyway but i wasn't gonna do that yet... i really hope it's not a turbo... but it is a good excuse for upgrading!
its the ebpv. Located on the turbo. Creates exhaust back presure to help warm the engine up quicker. I unplugged mine about 4 years ago. I hate that darn thing.
Glasseater, the actual EBPV is located in the cast housing on the exhaust side of the turbo (there is a rod running through the cast housing with an actuator on the bottom of it. To unplug the EBPV the connector is located below the air intake tube.
oh ok! that's what i was hoping it was!! my dad doesn't believe me though that it's that simple that all you have to do is unplug it... so that is all i have to do right? haha
If it's squeeking from the front of the engine then remove the serpentine belt and start it up. If the noise went away then look at the idler pulleys. The one on the tensioner too. These are the likely suspects. The AC bearing is a little more work to repair.
well today i unplugged the ebpv valve thing and it definitely fixed that annoying bogging out thing.... and actually i looked at the squeeking today and i'm 99% sure that it's coming from the vacuumn pump... i'll have to order a new one from an auto place monday... till then i'll deal with the squeek

Yes I had one of these pulleys puke on me and ruin the belt at the same time. Now that is one of my extra parts kept on hand, along with quite a few others.
Also if you let the bearing go bad in the vacuum pump it can grenade the housing thus ruining the core charge if you get a new one from the parts store. Speaking from experience.
