C6 passing gear or kick down information

The truck I am working on
1979 F 150
4x4
460 eng
C6 trans
It has been a while since I have worked on something with a carb, and yes I am having fun! I thought something was missing from the carb and remembered the kick down rod. Crawed under and found the mounting bracket at trans it moves real easy little effort dont recall if it should? The truck has a demon carb and I think it is set up for the kick down rod that is missing. My question is why would some one install a 400.00 carb and not hook it up with the kick down. and should it move freely at the trans or should it have a gear like feel, like shifting the trans manually (with hand). Will look at the salvage yard for the rod if there is no reason for this
Thank you John

the lever on the trans should move pretty easy and then spring back to the top once released.

the valve in the trans should be what pushes it back. if it doesn't the rod could be installed wrong, or the valve could be stuck.

I am going to move this to the trans forum, and hopefully get you some better responses.
