I have a 1989 Bronco with a 5.0 V8. This truck has been modified with Excell electronic ignition and has a very high idle about 2000 rpm. I have backed out the idle adjustment screw on the throttle body and still cannot get the idle down. Has anyone ever expirenced this problem and do you have any suggestions on how I can reduce the idle?
I had an 89 that had that Same problem before I killed it. I'm surprised that I still have hair left. Mine was fluctuating between 1500 & 2100 RPM, tryed the most simplist things first
I Finally replaced all the gaskets on the top end. Upper intake gasket, throttle body gasket, EGR gasket & the valve cover gaskets.
After I did that I had it idleing at 800 rpms. Too much air leakage in the system creates havauc with the computer.
I had the same exact problem last yr. I tried new stuff to no evail. The problem was cabon build up in the throttle body. you will need to take it off and spray carb cleaner in it and let it soak for a few minutes. Clean all areas of it springs etc. I'll guranntee that'll fix it.
I had the same problem with my 89. Took me forever finally discovering that it was the upper intake manifold gasket. Easy and cheap to fix, but surely hard to figure out.
