how about a 1-link?

been cruisin the web looking for rear suspension ideas and have stumbled across the 1-link, or wishbone suspension.

i would not use a trailer ball, something seems wrong about that, but a tractor rod end or something seems like just the ticket..

i wouldn't have to worry about leaf springs, i have some coils i could build perches for.

and i wouldnt need ladder bars either, i would have built in axle wrap prevention.

watcha think guys?

it is a triange with two bars /\ and the axle __

the point of the triangle mounts under the tcase via a large heim or johny joint or something and can act as protection for you rear driveling while offering unlimited articulation. some people have been known to use trailer ***** and hitches for the mount. thats kinda ghetto, but evidently functional. not for me.

the bars are welded or bolted solidly to the axle.

for the record......i am prepared to get flames.......

you still need some kind of trac bar or panhard bar because the wishbone style does nothing to locate the axle side to side.

ive done a little research on this, and the flex is outrageous. there is a scout on pirate that did this one link, and he used the ball and caps from a *gallion motorgrader*. i dont have the part numbers in front of me, but i emailed the guy and they are 160$ for just the ball and caps. i plan on doing this to my eb next winter.

yeah you have to have a panhard bar to locate the axle, but it is simple and fairly cheap in the end.

Justin

ill find some pics.

personally, i would shy away from the trailer ball type. it just looks too cheesy to work good.

yeah, that was just so everyone would understand what i meant in my first post.

if i do this for my rear suspension, i will use a big tractor rod end or a monster johnny joint or something.

i am acutally thinking about keeping my leaf springs and using this just as a trac bar for now....then in the future going to coilovers when i can afford to spend $400 on a shock.

i could just do a shackle flip, lower the front of the rear spring and build 10" spring perches for my axle. about 16" of lift or so and have this one link control my axle wrap.

i looked at my truck today and it looks like i would need bars about 6-7 feet long, do you think this would be okay, or would that be too long?

Well, if you keep your leaf springs, then a wishbone link is absolutely useless. As a metter of fact, it is counter-intuitive. You don't need anything on a leaf spring set up to trac the axle where it needs to be, the leaves do that well enough. The wishbone linkage will actually impair you articulation on a leaf spring set up, as the axle will want to travel on a different radial path than the wishbone, which will trac in correspondence to the pivoting frame mount.

So until you swap over to coils, coilovers, or airbags, don't waste your time...
