1st regeneration today at 640 miles. Drove about 3 miles. Noticed a slight hesitation for about 2 seconds then noticed extra power hardly pushing on the accelerator. Noticed my fuel averaged dropped from 13.2 to 13.0 on my half tank in the next 4 miles to my gym. When I put it in park it idled to about 1200 rpms. Let it run for a minute then shut it off. Could smell the hot exhaust when I got out. When I drove home it did not restart the regen. again, so I guess it is done for now. Not too much of a deal, I hardly noticed. Did I mention I really really like this truck.

My regeneration experience is a bit different. Was towing a 10,000 lb trailer and had just pulled on a state highway. Power felt normal but noticed the computer was showing the mpg going down. At 60 mph the fuel mileage should have been relatively good so the average mpg should have been holding steady at about 9 to 9.5, or be increasing, but not decreasing. I was curious so I reset the computer and it showed that the mpg was 6 to 7 for the next 10 to 15 minutes. Once the regeneration was over the mpg increased to 9 to 10 and stayed that way the rest of the trip. FYI, I drive a F350 crewcab 4wd dually with a 4:30 gear.
Creekowl, how do you like it towing so far? From what I have read so far, it sounds like fuel milage will always go down during the Regeneration. Hopefully it doesn't happen too often. So far I have noticed it sure does burn clean under normal driving. No black soot coming out like the older diesels. So the good outcome is we are helping cut down pollution.
What the heck is regeneration? I just bought an '08 F250 Supercab long box and I'm wondering what I should be looking out for. Oh, and for anyone who has an '08 with the tailgate step, how badass is that!
The new 6.4 Diesel has the new Ford clean diesel technology. It has a diesel oxidation catalyst and particulate filter.( Notice the exhaust tips have vents on them for heat.) If you have the brochure it explains it on page 9. A rugged stainless steel housing contains the diesel oxidation catalyst(doc) and diesel particulate filter(dpf). Up front the doc reduces hydrocarbons in the exhaust and generates heat for the dpf. Next the dpf traps particulates in its highly engineered silcon carbide wall-flow catalyst. The new system reduces particulate matter(soot) emissions by a factor of 10, bringing it to levels on par with a gasoline engine of simulars size and power. The doc/dpf is self-cleaning and self-diagnostic, automatically performing a regerations/clean cycle when needed, without andy driver input required. I have heard it does it for the first time after 300 miles. Mine was 640 miles, the computer adds extra fuel and heats the exhaust to burn off the particulates. During this time I noticed that slight hesitation, then a little extra power not towing, and the fuel milage drops a little during the 10 to 15 minute cycle. It is amazing how clean the exhaust is during normal operating. You do not get the spell of diesel fumes like the older ones.
the diesel oxidation catalyst is located in the egr flow. Its responsibility is to dry out the soot and particulates so there isnt repeats of the egr valve troubles of the 6.0
Big Sky Rancher, do you have a delivery date yet? Enjoyed washing and detailing mine today. Also I understand the regen. is about every 1000 miles or so.

Nope. I ordered the first week of April and was told 10-12 weeks. I could sure use it now too.
Ended up going with a Silver, Lariat F450 4WD, AT, 4.30 pretty much loaded, but without DVD and Nav.
I noticed my 2008 going into regen with only 200 miles on the odo. Those pipes sure throw out some serious BTU's from many feet away when it's in regen mode.
Big Sky Rancher, dealer should be able to give you an update now, that it has been accepted into production and the build date. It might depend on how many 450s 350s & 250s your dealer has ordered. From what I understand dealers only get 5% of their quota in 450's. The 450's are selling better than Ford anticipated, so you will be one of the lucky ones. I can not imagine how hard it must to wait now for you
