Alrightly math guys. I found out that my 300 l6 has been punched 40 over, sooo, I was guessing about 307. Does anybody know the formula or can proivide help in figuring this out. Thanks
Joe
This is an easy one! Volume for a cylinder is pi x r^2 x h, so for one cylinder at .040 over, displacement is 51.02 cubic inches. Multiply by six and you have 306.11 C.I. Safer to call it a 306 than 307, obviously.
PATSPOS, Thank you very much. Some place along the way I heard that 40 over equaled roughly an additiopn of 7 CI so thank you for the formula and it will be used quite a bit I am sure
Joe
Hey, no problem. There's no rule set in stone about how many cubes you're gonna get out of an overbore...it depends on how many thousandths you're going over, and it depends even more on the size of the original bore. A 460 with an .030 overbore is gonna gain more cubic inches than a 302.
Now hopefully you just want this information just for curiosity's sake, and not to go bragging. The only people I know of that brag about the actual CID of their overbored engines are Shivvy people. If someone asks me the displacement of my Torino's engine, I just tell them it's a 460 with a .030 overbore...let them do the math!
No, I am not into that, I was just wondering for the sake of wondering. I work alot with very large diesel engines and its important to know cubes and compression and the like. Well thanks again, and I have never owned a shivvy. Joe
