Where do I find the best source/price on the fuel lift pump? I want to go ahead and shoot the full ball of wax on this mod at one time and put it to bed (or, under the bed to be more precise).
Hey Pete, glad to hear you are getting around to this. By far the most dramatic difference in sound and smoothness I have done to my truck. Everything else like the "Cackle Cure" has just built on that. I didn't do a lift pump, so can't help you there, but I'm sure someone will chime in. Did you get your Kink taken care of or are you still "kinkey"?
Chris, I'm getting the kit from ITP (pic in the attached PDF file).
EVERYONE....
I have another question after looking at the JEGS site. They have two pumps identically priced with identical flow ratings. However, one of them includes the brackets and some rubber isolators to help ensure a "quiet pumping experience", which would be a nice option, especially for the same price.
Here's my concern... the pump with the brackets and isolators is rated at a slightly higher pressure (6-8 psi output as compared to the other pump's 4-6 psi output rating).
Is this slightly higher output pressure going to cause problems for my stock pump? If so, I'll get the lower pressure pump and make my own brackets and isolators... otherwise, I'll get all the goodies with the higher pressure pump to minimize my own "manufacturing requirements".
What do you guys think about this issue? I've posted pics in the attached PDF file below so you can see what I'm talking about.
That is the same pre-pump and in-tank kit I've been eyeballin! I spoke to Dennis about it when we were at Smokin and he said there is no need for a lift pump with this particular kit. He said that the micron rating on the Baldwin fuel water seperator was not low enough to strain our OEM fuel pump.
I'm still going to think about it a bit... maybe just for when I get **** enough to tighten up on the filter pore size.
Do you think the higher pressure pump would create too much push for the stock pump? It's only 2 psi more pressure, but I'm not sure what kind of suction pressure the pump can tolerate.
Now that I think about it a little more, the higher pressure shouldn't be a problem at all. The pump is simply going to pass that pressure along through to it's discahrge, and we already know the downstream lines can take that little bit of extra pressure without a problem.
I might hold on for now, though... now that I remember that my water pump is showing its age and might just need to be replaced in the next several months (or less).
I put a Holley red pump between the tank and the filter its rated at 7psi . Dennis told me that with the pump before the filter the water seperation wouldn't be very good . But I'll tell ya what that extra pump made a difference on the HP side of my chip. I couldn't really tell the difference before .
