We go to a little town on the very northern tip of the Sea of Cortez, Puerto Penasco. Its the closest place we can drive to the ocean. Beautiful beaches, fresh shrimp from the fishing boats every day and lots of cold SOL beer. Have a few for me!!!!

You can take back roads from Penasco to Ygriegas (the-Y), turn west and go to El Desembque...great oyster farms at the mouth of the river (bring cold beer and hot sauce, trade for fresh shucked oysters )...also the largest shrimp in Mexico (6 to the pound !!!) are from Desemboque, but it is too early in the season for the big honkers.

On the way back, go through Ygriegas and stop in Caborca...Sinaloan rotisserie chicken, fresh limes, fresh tortillas and fermented salsa....it's so good I know some folks who eat the chicken bones . Stop at the mission and see the bullet holes in the walls! My favorite ball cap is from caborca...it says on it: "No cervaza, no trabajo"...

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Newcastle Brown Ale
Mendocino brewing co. Red Tail Ale
Samuel Adams Boston Lager
Samuel Adams Black Lager

As far as Mexican beer while you're down there...

Negra Modelo
Bohemia
Dos Equis (XX)

Just, please, don't drink Corona!

And have a fun trip. An aunt and uncle of mine just got back from a week in Mexico... decided to invite myself and a few cousins to go along next year. Should be a good time.

While in Cozumel, rent a Jeep, and get the extra insurance, the island is only 37 miles around and only 1 road goes all the way around, and it follows the coast. 5 miles out of town you are in the middle of nowhere jungle on the left, ocean, beaches, MARGARITA HUTS, on the right. please take a day to drive this beutiful road, a pit stop is required at each bar you see in the middle of nowhere(there are more than you think, about 10 if I recollect) now these arn't big flashy bars with signs and stools, and pool tables, NOOO, these are local run drink stops that thrive on tourista dinero. heres the best part. The margaritas are fresh ( I mean the man cuts open limes and juices them for your drink, no crappy barmix here) and the tequila is Mezcal, stronger than resposada. Now order one at the bar an one togo(Cerveza is also an acceptable form of hydration ) get into Jeep that you have extra insurance on and go to the next hydration stop( the sun is murder in an open top jeep) also be sure to stop at the various open air food stands on this road, I am talking high quality food, just don't ask what it is and your good.( if you think you are eating fried chicken legs, or BBQ chicken legs most likely it is iguana but it does taste like chicken. Oh how I wish I were going so i could show you all the fabulous snorkeling off the hiway secluded beaches, coral reefs, ( just stop along the hiway and walk out on a deserted beach and start snorkeling ) Yes, please drink at least a 6- pack for me
