well i a strange knock to a tick sound in my diesel and i got the new injectors and the strange thing it comes and it goes i have posted that in old post, but is not consitate so i have been trying to figure it out. and i have been told valve, broke valve spring or weak one, bad injector, bad lifters, and so on, but as i thought if it was a broke spring it would do it all the time? bad lifter maybe but most time more then one goes.bad injectors yes but i have new one in so i ruled that out. as i have thought and talked to dave S. and i think i might have came up with the problem i am not sure of it but i would like for others to think about it and tell me what you think.
what i came up with is trash is in one of the lifters or it is getting inthe the push rod and stopping the oil to the rocker. now when i shut the truck off over night the oil has time to drian back out and the trash leaves the push rod. hench no nosie at start up. till the trash works it way back in the rod stopping the oil to the rocker once again. and the sound is back. that is the only thing i can come up with. since it is not making it happen in a certain order.
Pull your rocker cover off than and find out, if its on the passenger side that'll be a tough one to get off seeing as you have to unbolt the engine, but drivers side is a synch to do.

yeah the sound is out of the passenger side, so what all has to be unblot for the side?
well dont think that is the problem. all the rockers has oil. . but i did find something odd. the valve cover had been off before and the motor is too clean, i mean there is no slug no burnt oil on any thing. it is like the rockers and the push rods and the valve cover on the inside are brand new. which to me sends out an alram. turck has over 205,000 miles it should be dirty some where up there
well i did not find anythign wrong in the heads, nor the clutch assembly (LUK) so i guess i will try to change the gaskets on the manifolds, this knocking ticking sound is driving me nuts. but the engine is clean and have no oil leaks and i have not lost power with this engine since the knocking came back i was gone for over a month. and now has returned. so i am lost right now.
NC, I have/had a similar problem. I changed my injectors and IP and still have the tick. I did the ATS upgrade and discovered during the removal 2 things. The downpipe clamp was totally loose and leaking and the Wye pipe just came out when I pulled the turbo (many others cried as it took hours or prying and PB blaster to get it off). I did all this and it still ticks slightly as the exhaust is starting seal up. I probably should replace that Wye flange with one that is a tighter fit.
The other thing to consider is timing can be really different with new injectors. Did you check that? The last thing is new injectors are not always good. Did you check for changes by loosening each injector?
