For engine choices with the 5.4L should I get the FFV versus the standard option.? I plan on putting on a edge or something like it down the road, and was curious as to if the FFV has issues with the FFV
Unless you're shopping used trucks, you're only going to get an FFV engine on a new one. The Ford "Build & Price" site is out of date in that it shows FFV as an option. There was a point in time they just switched over and called it good.
I wouldn't expect the Edge Evo to have any problem with a FFV engine/PCM (eventually). There were quite a few kinks in the programs for the latest '07's, but I expect they're working them out with time.
The kinks will be worked out soon,if theyw ant the FFV to be in all trucks soon, they have no choice.
Perosnally, when I get my truck,I am getting it witht eh flexfuel engine because eventually vehicles won't be running on gasoline anymore.I'd rather not have to buy a brand new truck.

Are you saying that beyond a certain point, all F150's are FFV compatible? I would like to know when that point is...I doubt my 04 is new enough. Are the new trucks labeled with 'E85 or Unleaded' or something to that effect?
As for the Edge - I guess you could just call up Edge and see what they say about FFV compatibility - that way you would have it straight from the source.
it says FFV on it....i have an 07 and the dealer said they are only ordering FFV trucks from now on becuase they get a rebate from the government for the additional cost of construction...
The switch was some time in '06 I believe, whether those were '07's that were in production or not, I'm not exactly sure.
The FFV's now have the fancy BP logo'd Flex Fuel gas cap on them now and another sticker somewhere in the filler area. I'm betting a sticker under the hood says something about flex fuel too, I'd have to check mine again to be sure.
yep, get the FFV. the fuel system is designed to handle the corrosive e-85 fuel.
sometime down the road, we're going to phase out reg unleaded just like regular gas got phased out. Like Buckeyesteeler7, I'd rather not have to deal with a conversion or possibly have to buy a new vehicle just to use the new gas.
the Edge should give you no problems with a FFV engine. You might have problems if you run a tune for 91+ octane and switch to using E-85 without changing your tune.
When specing out a truck the dealer said I had a choice of FFV or not. So either he didnt know that its the only option available or it still is a option.
I emailed Edgeproducts 2 days ago about the compatability and they havent return my mail, so no "official" response.
So unless someone has some connections, im not really sure if im gonna get a "official" response.
Do you guys think they are really gonna phase out regular gas within 5 years?
Read the May issue of Motor Trend, there's a great article about it. Ethanol can't replace any more than 40% of our gas consumption.
If it were me, I'd get the flex fuel version, just for the option of running something other than gas if it's cheaper.
yes it is....their is a E85 station in lititz, pa.....E85 is 2.00 a gallon....vs. 285 now for 87 octane gas......85C per gallon....even if the MPG is a little lower it's still cheaper.....i save a little over 20 bucks for every fill up....thats a big difference...
