8 (!) NEW INJECTORS??

Hi,

my (5.0) engine is making some trouble,
would park the car and could start it but it stalls as soon as I touch the gas pedal.......

new gas filter didn't help, fuel pump possibly worn (>140k miles), visible fumes, of course all this happened after I spent $$ on the front end........

I somehow rolled the car to a major dealership (...boys) to have a computer readout/engine check.

Brain (module/chip...) seems to have died (RIP) but these guys were asking for 2000 to fix everything, namely 8 (!) new injectors (parts+labor 1000!!!!!).

Now I think that is pure nonsens, i will have to check the module first and take it from there......

Q: where is the brain located (1986XLT, 5.0l engine)?
Q: who sells it CHEAP?
Q: is it possible to replace single injectors?
Q: what would cause the engine to idle up and down like the famous CYCLONE in Coney Island and then finally stall?
Q: why do things break?

Thank you so much for any input, I read 1000 answers in this forum and i know that this is a common problem....
But I am loosing so much money on crap-diagnosis and towing.....any BRONCOHEAD in manhattan/queens??

machts gut,

nick

8 (!) NEW INJECTORS??

There is a place called PPI that sells 8 NEW 19pound injectors for $99!!! Compared to $150 A PIECE from Ford. Your EEC/ECM is either in the left or right kick panel in the footwell inside the truck. I thought they were all on the right side but the Super Duties have them on the driver's side.

Your surging is from a lean/rich signal that can come from a number of places. Your 02 sensors come to mind and it's a common MAF problem but you're not Mass air. Search Corral.net for a used Speed density computer. I'm taking a WAG that a SD ECM from a Mustang with the same trans may work.

8 (!) NEW INJECTORS??

Nick...........

Try AutoZone. They quoted me $94 for a new EEC/ECM for my 86 Bronco XLT w/ 302. My EEC/ECM is located above the gas peddle, just under the dash. It's a 1½x6x7 canister. You can also get the injectors from AutoZone for $49 each. You can replace a single injector however, I've always been told it's not a good ieda. As far as stalling goes...were you aware that there are 2 fuel pumps? One in the gas tank, and one mounted to the frame on the drivers side. Had a similar problem, found it to be the pump in the tank. If you're doubting the fuel pump as the problem, you might want to check the fuel regulator.

Just thought I give you my opinion, hope it helps.
