I have a 79 351W from an LTD I am building up. I'd like to go serpentine on the belts. Is this possible and what year did the serpentine belt system show up on the 351W - so I can start looking for brackets, etc?
Thats going to be a problem with a serpentine belt system, you might have to change your water pump out for a reverser rotation pump or your ac compressior might need to have the rotation of the pump changed. But I think i saw one that had the ac compressior also but its limited to what years. The York ones like my 351 has, they dont have pulleys for those but for the others they do.
Its a short-block so I need a new water pump, timing cover, etc. I am transfering over my accessories from my I-6. I need a new A/C compressor.
I don't know which accessories will drive the same direction. Also, I don't know if it's like other engines with serpentine belt where all the accessories mount to 1 bracket that has the idler on it. I really don't want to spend the big $$$ at Jegs or Summit - so I was hoping to call around to find out who has the mounting bracket and mount to front of the motor. I just don't know how the bracket mounts or if I can even mount one on it - block on later years has mounting holes for bracket, etc.
Thats the best. The aftermarket ones ive been looking at uses multiple brackets. But if your going to use factory brackets there will be fewer, those kits are the convert from the V belt system to the serpentine belt system
