Balancer interchangability?

I just got done checking autozones web site to compare part numbers to see if my harmonic balancer on my 351w would work on my early 302. The part numbers matched up but they specified different balancers for manual or automatic. Is their really a difference where a harmonic balancer off an auto will not work on a manual. I have never heard of this before.

What Hemi said. Flexplate/flywheel for auto/manual is the only difference. I wonder if you told the people at AZ their info is wrong, they'd give you a prize?

The only thing different I can think of is some of the earlier 302's used a 3 bolt balancer. The newer ones are 4 bolt. So check your pulley and you should be good.

I figured the same thing 28 0z is 28 ounce. As far as pulleys go I am swapping it too to get an extra groove for a possible future onboard air setup using a york compressor. They are both four bolt anyway. Thanks everyone.

I was looking at them in the Summit catalog this morning. 302-351W are the same except 82-up HO engines. they use a 50oz balance.
