well finally at 147K while my ex was driving the 4 banger 99 ranger broke down. She claims she was doing about 40 and coasting on the parkway when all of a sudden the truck just stopped. Finally she was towed to her house and it seems like the timing belt broke. So lol anyone care to take a bet if we have a bent valve or anything??
I have yet to tare into it and i had a buddy who owns a shop run over and look at it quick so im 99% sure hes right about the belt
I'm pretty sure these 4 bangers are non interferance engines. I replaced a belt on a 90 that broke while doing about 60 -- Started right up! Just don't be alarmed if the valves tick a bit till the oil gets back up there because the belt also runs the oil pump drive.
well i went and ordered the belt today and unfortunately Ford dont stock em so i got an aftermarket one. Hopefully tomorrow ill have time to get into it. Its kinda rough to get a moment to myself these days with the wife recovering from surgery and my parents who are elderly and unable to care for themselves but hopefully ill get it done this weekend
....and the ford 4cyl is one of the few non-interferance engines ive come across. break a belt with a dodge neon and you have a suitable donor vehicle for a monster truck to drive over. id rather change a belt in the ranger motor than the older escorts though. those are really tough to do.
you guys were on the money just the timing belt nothing else even the tensioner was good. it feels great to have the old gal back on the road i miss not having it to run around in even tho i have the van too the truck just feels more comfortable for me to drive
