first breakdown

well finally at 147K while my ex was driving the 4 banger 99 ranger broke down. She claims she was doing about 40 and coasting on the parkway when all of a sudden the truck just stopped. Finally she was towed to her house and it seems like the timing belt broke. So lol anyone care to take a bet if we have a bent valve or anything??
I have yet to tare into it and i had a buddy who owns a shop run over and look at it quick so im 99% sure hes right about the belt

I'm pretty sure these 4 bangers are non interferance engines. I replaced a belt on a 90 that broke while doing about 60 -- Started right up! Just don't be alarmed if the valves tick a bit till the oil gets back up there because the belt also runs the oil pump drive.

I'll bet 500 bucks you do not have a bent valve! $500 in cold hard cash. Sound good?

As Rags said, non-interference engine, so no worries. Replacing it SUCKS though, have fun. Basically disassemble the entire front of the engine.

Like everyone says, no bent valves. Just replace the cam belt, and you are good to go.

....and the ford 4cyl is one of the few non-interferance engines ive come across. break a belt with a dodge neon and you have a suitable donor vehicle for a monster truck to drive over. id rather change a belt in the ranger motor than the older escorts though. those are really tough to do.

I can't believe that Ford didn't have a timing belt in stock. It is a maintance item.
