Turbonetics ?'s

I'm looking into getting a Turbonetics to replace my stock turbo to cure the surging. I know that I could go with the ATS housing to do the same thing, but for some reason I am stuck on replacing the whole turbo. I do also plan on a DP tuner and BTS vb at the same time. Is there much difference besides the obvious cost between the stock w/ATS and the Turbonetics? Where is the best place to get one, price wise? Any and all suggestion are welcomed.

there is a lot of word going around that they are good,
what are you looking for from it? like powerwise, or just looking to upgrade the turbo?
you might want to considder the BallBuster turbo too, i went with H2E cause i was looking for much more, and im not towing, ( not yet) and H2E is slower spool up, but less exhaust pressure ,
i thing you cant go wrong with Turbonetics, did you look at Garret GT38R ball bering one ?

and id say once you get the whole turbo vs just housing, you will be better off, i think,

You can't go wrong with Jody's tunes and one of Brian's VB. Customer service is great and both are quick to communicate.

Personally, I am going to steer clear of Turbonetics. I have shot them a couple of e-mails with questions. Neither received any response from them. I guess they have bigger fish to fry and can't be bothered with us little guys.

I was talking to some guys at Smokin' in the Smokies and they wished they would have never got the turbonetics drop in replacement turbo. They had the 1.0 housings however and said it spooled slow(er) than stock, but that is with a larger turbo. I was about to go with one till i heard that.

I'm looking for something that will cure the surge and support more power mods down the road. I don't tow anything heavy now, but likely will in the future. I am planning on running a couple of truck pulls this summer, for fun only and want to be able to terrorize a few ricers on the street. I'm by no means trying to build a 500hp engine, my pockets aren't that deep right now.

These are the very reasons I am going to go with these guys. Customer service is #1.

i have a tn ball buster turbo, i needed a turbo in a hury and i went to a shop that could have the ball buster the next day for $1100 so i went with it..... i think that it is a huge inprovement over stock and would do it again...having a manual trans i can really tell a difference in how much backpressure was lost with getting that stocker off and putting the ball buster on. i also have a dp tuner and the turbo spools great, towing with this turbo and jodys tunes is a dream...no more surging or looking at the boost gauge and seeing 15psi, just a cloud of balck smoke and alot of whistle!!

OK, I've been looking for a while tonight. I've checked out the Ball Buster(Turbonetics?) , H2E and Garrett BB.

The Ball Buster is $1300, The H2E is $2200 and the Garrett is $1650. All seem like good turbos. The H2E is probably more than I'll need for now and I can't find much on the GT38R. Now, If I do decide to go with the Turbonetics, would the .84 or 1.0 housing be better? How about the high flow outlet?

What do you want to know? I've got around four years and about 120,000 miles on my 38R, about 24,000 of that on DI stage II's. With the 1.0 housing it's very well suited for mid level power apps., and will clear the smoke on hybrids with the 1.15 housing. It's very durable, reliable, and has the coolest sound of any PSD turbo I've heard yet.

Scott, i have heard that it is loud. Is it any louder than say, a ww/ats combination? They are so close in design (the same style wheel and housing) that it seems they would sound pretty close to the same.

Technically, yes it can be rebuilt...but not like our stock turbos can be. In other words, it's not something you can do at home on your bench.

BTW Kris, I love the avitar! LMAO!

Does anyone have experience with both the Turbonetics and the GTP38R? The only differences I can find are the price and compressor wheel diameters 91mm vs 88mm.

Send a PM to CSIPSD. He's run both, and could give you an direct comparison.

It has sort of a mechanical gear sounding whine even at idle...sounds like a gear drive even before you get it lit.

You could if parts were available, but unfortunately the only thing we can do at present is replace the center section as an assembly.
