So... I just started the project on my '77 F150. Beginning with the carburetor. I swapped out the original two barrel with a rebuilt one. I had a major fuel leak coming from the carburetor, not to mention the leak in the fuel pump. So, I got most of that done last night, until I ran into a couple of problems with hoses needing to be replaced, not fitting, or being just straight rotted! Went to go get the parts today, and of course.... it starts pouring down rain. Supposed to go all the way until Friday! Like I said before guys and ladies... I'm relatively new at this so any advice, friends, or help would be greatly appreciated!
FTE is huge and it is so big it has Specific forums for practically every topic one could ask.
Fuel line comes in 2 sizes for these trucks.
5/16" & 3/8"
Make sure you get proper FUEL line not just regular rubber hose
The truck should have as much STEEL fuel line as possible as it keeps fuel cooler.
Rubber hose holds heat and can cause fuel delivery problems in hot climates.
Major leak in the carb is usually from an improper Float setting.
The floats are what operates a valve to let more fuel in after it has been used.
This is a Common problem with rebuilt carb ...especially after they have been turned upside down while carrying around.
Thanks Dennis!!! Yea, I just replaced the carb yesterday. I'm in the process of giving it a full out tune-up. (rotor, distributer cap, plugs, oil, and tranni filter and fluid.) Hopefully it will start runnin' a lil better afterwards. It seems to idle fine in park, but as soon as i touch the gas in Drive, it dies without hesitation... what the hell is that??? Lata bro.
