I have 225-70-14s, Michelin light truck tires. They wear like iron, fit fine, no rubs on turns, but ride a bit stiff. I looked the size up on a web tire calculator, and it said the circumference was pretty close to the orig. OEM tires. More stable than OEM size, I think.
You should try a set of P215 75R14 tires. I have them on my '87 Aerostar, WW. Looks perfect on the van, as they are a little taller, than the P215 70r14, which look a little small on this van.
Ride is very smooth. Any LT rated tire will ride rougher, due to the stiff sidewall. Unless you load your Aerostar down, a commercial cargo Aerostar, carry a lot of passengers, ect. The P225 70R14 tires are overkill, plus you get a stiff ride for no real reason.
I saw an Aerostar in a parking lot the other day with P195 70R14 tires, all 4. The van looked sick with those tiny tires on it.
I put 15" ranger rims [the 6" , not the 5.5"] with 215/65 Yokohamas Avids. The diameter is the same as the stock 14's. The ranger rims are punched out more and look better. Rides very smooth. I got the rims for $35 apiece.
the tires are wider also. But no rubbing at all.
Beaned
I have an extended pass areostar with 215/75/14 on it right now. I was thinking a little taller tire may be a the way to go for some addition stability, but I don't know. I don't know how much a LT tire would affect the ride of the van, seems to be pretty heavy now. I would also consider the ranger rims for a 15 in wheel but crap then I couldn't use those pretty chrome beauty rings. I may end up staying with the 215/75.
