I'm new to diesels- my X seems to take longer than a gaser to start (5-6 sec). Is this normal?
also, most driving is around town- do I need to turn this baby out on the highway every now and then? My buddy says something about burning up the unignited diesel or a sensor will go.

Usually diesels take slightly longer to start because they need to build up compression and get the fuel in the engine. JHust make sure you are letting the glow plugs heat up adequately before cranking. Todays diesels are much more efficient than older diesels,so i dont think the highway thing applies that much.

Getting out on the highway and jumping on it some is good for any motor in my opinion. Lets everything get nice and hot and burn off any water that may have accumulated from condensation in the axles or trans. If you go on the highway very rarely you may notice the vehicle running a little smoother after stretching its legs on the highway and betaing on it a bit.
