I have a 78 bronco that has a vibration at about 25 mph and under during braking or not,its just worse when I brake, everything brake wise on the rear has been replaced, the vibration is not as noticable at constant speed, can anyone help......
90% of the time vibration while braking is a result of "rotor runout". You might want to check your front rotors, they might have worn too thin. They tend to also warp if they are this thin. Check them out.
If it is bouncing almost like a ball then you also need to check the steering stabiliser. Just remove one end and work it in and out. It should feel just like a good shock absorber. If there is no resistance and you are able to move it too easy OR if it binds and does not travel smooth. Replace it.
it feels more like something in the driveline to me,not really in the steering wheel, where elese can I look for problem parts, any more ideas would be helpful.......thanks
Can you drive past the vibration like go faster past that point?
You really should get your U-joints checked. They might not be worn out however I have had them seize up. As a matter of fact when I replaced a seized up one on my 84 Bronco my gas mileage got better.
If you suspect the driveline...I would first check the slip joint at the rear of your driveshaft....Mine felt tight untill I pulled it apart...that is when I discovered 1/2 of the splines were worn to nothing....also...the centering ball on the front cardon...to make a long story short...I had a similar vibration...$180.00 to a local driveshaft place...for a brand new driveshaft that they also balanced....and...my vibration is gone.
