i have an 04 explorer an recently the drivers side rear tire is makeing a clicking noise. ive checked the brakes and everything simple like that, i cant seem to pin point the source. any suggestions? only happens at low speed
my 2004 explorer did the same thing. sounds like a clicking noise coming from the rear wheels. i noticed it mainly going down the highway. turned out when the dealership changed out my ring and pinion the clicking completely went away. i hope this helps you out
Hi - How did you resolve this? I have an 02 Explorer with the exact same conditions and am wondering what the cause is. I want to fix it, but want to know what to fix...
I have a 2004 Explorer Limited and had a similar clicking noise from the RR wheel. It turned out to be a bad wheel. The chrome skin on the wheel evidently came loose from the alloy wheel. I took the wheel off and bounced it on the driveway and rotated it with each bounce and when it hit the bad side the wheel boinked instead of thumped. Fortunately warranty covered the wheel.
Just checking back in to let you know what the problem was for my 02 Explorer with this same issue. The parking brake lining sheered off and was making a heck of a mess and the tell tale clicking noise inside the "drum". I took off the rear rotor and the little pieces of lining material came falling out. What a mess! Anyway, I just finished replacing the parking brake shoes and while I was in there I replaced the rear rotor and pads. They were within a year of needing to be replaced anyway... I will test it all out tomorrow when this snow stops...

Reminds me of when one of the brake springs broke inside the right rear drum on my Explorer......same kind of noise you're describing.
