i was wondering if anyone has ever done a rear seat lift on there 1997-2002 Ext cabs.....i am thinking of doing a 2 inch rear lift to fit a sub or multiple subs under the seat....just wondering if anyone else has done it..and how so they did.
i have done this, i used a coupl eof pieces of angle iron welded together to make a piece of channel iron (didn't want to spend the money to buy the channel iron). of course this means you have to remove the middle support in the back, but at least teh sub box fits.
oh so i can remove that middle support?...it is not necessary? i was afraid i was going to have to work around this.
also what room do you have to work with after you are done the lift? what mounting depth are your subs?
how big of lift did you do? 2 inch....3?4? where did you place the lift blocks? at the edge where the 3 torx screws are? did you just buy longer screws?do people that sit in the back complain about hitting the roof?
i did a 2 inch lift, you can remove the middle support as long as you have something under the seat supporting it. i mounted the blocks on teh outside where the seat mounts. i unmounted the seat and used teh original nuts and bolts to mount the blocks to the floor. then i used some shorter bolts to mount the seat to the blocks. i can't tell you without measureing what there is for room or the mounting depth of my subs, it's been a few years since i built the box. i don' thave too many passengers in the back, mostly use it for a place to through stuff, but there is a noticable difference if you do sit in the back. good luck!! holla if you have any more questions.
What about the lower profile subs. I have these with a box from a local dealer. I only put 8's in mine, but the guy had boxes for 12's and 16's Just a thought might be easier than going through all the work to modify your seat.
if you don't already have the subs, maybe look for what would fit without modifying your truck. its hard to lift the seat and have look good, as well as be "stock strong". if your worried about power, there are many shallow subs that put out the same +/- as the deep ones...
Here is a link for some seat lifts being sold by someone on e-bay. I am NOT the seller or connected with the seller in any way. I happened to find these listed when I was looking for some seat parts for my F150.
There are some good pictures of what you need to lift your seat, and the seller has also included the name of the company that he bought them from. I don't see how these would cost very much if you can fab them yourself, unlike the price he paid for them.
I lifted 1 inch by cutting pieces of pipe and using longer bolts. works well and looks good, but the seats don't fold down now. Since I have subs under anyway I am not concerned.
I have a set of seat liftsI got of the web. They are 4 inch ones. they come with lifts for all 3 brackets.I haven't used them. I have a Qlogic box with JL Audio 8inch W3 dvc subs that fits without a lift. I may put a set of 10s in someday after the 8s wear out. I was really suprised at how much bass the downfiring 8s added. I hit 129db at a sound quality contest using the song Flashdance that the USAC made you use at that time. Its not the best song for SPL.
