Im considering an 05 6.0. With the bad rep the 6.0 has earned itself Im a little hesitant. What can you guys tell about it? What problems plagued it?
Thanks
what makes the 6.0 or any other "current" diesel bad is the emissions BS. But since the EPA has to ruin everything we must all suffer...you will find more people have trouble free 6.0's then those with....if the price is good i would not hesitate.
I test drove one before I found my 2000 for a song, it went like a bat out of hell, I would have bought it except for the business manager getting the numbers wrong 3 times in a row. My buddies dad has an '06 that has been great.
I think you'll find the problems were with the early intro years 6.0s. I have an 03 that I just bought in Feb. It had 34K on it then...it has 42K on it now and I've had no problems with my 6.0...
You shouldn't have any issues with an 05 but I suggest running an OASIS report on it first to confirm any previous issues with it.
32K on mine, towing my trailer for about 8K of those miles.
It burped coolant during the first trip over the Grapevine and again at 5K. After the second time I tightened the degas cap, lowered the coolant level to 'minimum' and it hasn't happened since then.
Got a vibration at 20K descending the Grapevine and towing. Took it in and they replaced the front rotors, surfaced the rear rotors, and replaced the disc pads front and rear under warranty. The cd died shortly after that, replaced under warranty. All is well.
The bellhousing is 'wet' but there's never been a single drop underneath the truck, ever. Yeah, I paid $40K and the bellhousing is wet, so what?!?!
Guess the people at the Kentucky Truck Plant built mine midweek and the IH robots were adjusted properly to torque the headbolts correctly!
One key item to remember: Change the oil and filter (Racor made or licensed) at no more than 5K on the 6.0, even if you use synthetic. Your injectors will reward you with trouble free performance.
The issues with the 6.0 are over rated and blown way out of porportion. The first learning years are over and any 05 06 07 will be a great truck. Run an Oasis report and enjoy...
05 F350 CC 6.0 auto with 32,000 miles. Two small issues; abs sensor failed and turbo boost guage needed barmetric sensor replaced. Best truck I've ever owned.
Holy batcrap....hottrodd...05 with 190,000 miles, you drive ALOT
No, I was looking for a high mileage truck to replace my 167K mile 2000.
This 05 came real close to what the insurance company paid for the 2000.
It hit 189,000 on my test drive, has 194k+ now. Miles don't scare me
we have had several gas vehicles go over 200K, and my brothers still
drive a chevy 1500 with over 350K that runs great, we used it for a 1500 mile
weekend after my 2000 got wrecked.
Take care of them and they will take care of you!
