i have a 97 f250 psd with the original automatic locking hubs. my problem is when i disingage after ive had it in four wheel drive it wont kick out .the light tunrs off but i can still tell
Skid: I also have a 97 PSD. After you move the 4-wheel drive shifter forward to 2wd you have to back the truck up approx. 10 feet to disengage. Hope this helps.
I have a '97 also and I some times have to back up and go forward two or three times to get it to unlock. I do it both under load and with the clutch in or in neutral. I used to have the same problem you had but I started this ritual of doing it that many times and I do not have the problem anymore.
I have trouble getting mine to enguage. I set it to 4x4 and sart to move. Then there's a loud sound and a jerk and there's 4x4. No problems going back into 2, though. I've never had to reverce to get it out. I always put it in Neutral and hold the clutch when putting it in 4x4..
I have noticed that some are temperamental and some work fine. Just luck of the draw I guess. Although it probably is the amount of use they get and the age that affects them most.
luck of the draw is right. i have been using the factory auto's for a couple of years now. do have to back up a bit after going back to 2wd, but no problems. lot of guys have problems and ditch the auto's.
Were manual lockers always an option on the Ford Trucks? When I ordered mine in '94 ,
I don't remember that being a choice. Would have been better to have the manuals than the auto lockers though.
