Our Idea to put diesel engines into old cars are on TV now.
Yesterday I was watching Pump'n'ride TV show with Arnold Schwarzneger and they put turbodiesel into old car! Arny says, that diesel, especially bio-diesel ore synfuel is not so harmful for us.
For some reason in N.A. Diesel engines in private cars/trucks is a hard to sell notion, dont know why......... it's caught on in Europe, big time. Diesels dont suffer from wear like most petrol engines do , diesel fuel is (or should be) cheaper. They are more efficient & dont need ignition systems. Diesel engine is a real workhorse but they do sound like a a bag of nails!
what has held back diesels in passenger cars was the horrible V8 conversions did by GM in the 70s and 80s...evil smelling smoking poor running underpowered expensive to repair pieces of junk
also the diesel fuel quality...held back by the oil refinery companies and large trucking/diesel engine manuf's....not wanting to have to deal with ULSD and it's problems in older engines plus necessary design changes....Europe and the rest of the world has had ULSD for more than 5 years
low emissions in a diesel require ULSD or the exhaust particulate filter permanently plugs and the engine is in 100% regen burnoff
quiet low emissions gas engines are CHEAP (prime manuf. operative word) to build
Old diesel engines with traditional injectors and block-pumps are loud. Cmmon rail diesels, PLD (DaimlerChrysler), Diesels with pump-injectors (Cummins, Cat, Volvo, YAMZ) are not so loud and as experiment shows, there are special anti-noise materials in every car-store and we put this materials to my fiend's diesel aero and it is silent now.
