Cheap fender bodywork

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to fix the rear fenders on an f150. They are sorta rotted right through the wheel wells...no other problems, just in the well itself.

I am looking to do a cheap but workable job so it can pass safety.

a couple years ago my cousin picked up a pair of rear wheel well replacement panels for $55 a piece, there are epoxy's you can get so you dont need to weld them also, which should save some cash.

hey...I really like that idea. I don't need a pretty fix...the truck is to be used as a hauler for bringing stuff to the dump/recycling center and to haul my bike to the sand pits.

Cut out fender flares are illegal there? A rusty truck is illegal there? Man I'm glad I'm in IL.

I would think you could probably buy a new truck bed for a few hundred dollars if you have to. Try calling some places that make custom truck bodies, they sometimes have some that they have taken off their customers trucks and keep.

well its illegal to have the tires come out past the body of any vehicle *except vehicles for off road use only*. The rust wouldn't be so bad except that the metal around the edges is kinda sharp and is a danger to others...aparently the believe that if someone were to brush up against it then they would cut themselves...my response to that is "stay away from my truck and your skin will stay on your body". Unfortunately the Ministry of Transportation doesn't agree with me.

How about visiting a junkyard? If your truck has rust holes I'm assuming it's a 96 or older F150, which there are plenty of in junkyards all over place. It'll be cheap too. Just bring your tools.

Have you checked with an auto parts dealer for patch panels (like Pud suggested)? You could cut out the rusty stuff, then just pop-rivet the patch on, and attempt to blend it in with Bondo. Or have a go at welding it on with MIG or gas.

If you could sandblast out enough rust and get down to solid metal, a combination of fiberglass cloth, resin, and marine bondo could make a good repair. Or if you've got welding/brazing capability and don't care how bad it looks, form your own patch panels with a ball-peen hammer and tree stump and weld 'em in.

Or, since you're in Red Green country, what's wrong with Duct tape? I've been told that duct tape is enough to pass the inspection here in BC.
