Anybody else have problems going to the dentist? I never used to be afraid of going, but it has gotten much worse in the last few years. I had to cancel an appointment today because I was so nervous. I don't really know why it is like this. My teeth are fine, I don't even have a cavity. Anybody else get real nervous? How do you deal with it?
I do!
I have white coat syndrome, only with the dentist. i am a wreck after simple filling. the new guy i started going to a few years back decided that since I'm with the state, i have great insurance, so he ends up drilling all my amalgam fillings out to replace with composites....and ended up getting FIVE crowns because he drilled them so much. I should've never let him touch them....the amalgam fillings were fine.
You can take a valium before-hand....some dentists will prescribe that.
dentists are bad... just brush your teeth and have the bad ones pulled out... when you're forty you can get a nice titanium set.. this is what my dentist's hygenist told me.
my deal was i never used to floss....that means for each cavity between the teeth, you have to have two teeth drilled!!!
now i have no choice but to floss, or just drive a semi between my teeth to clean them.
I have a major fear of dentists. I went about 17 years without going. I paid for it in the end though. My wife will screen dentists for me. The last one I had was great. Still I would just about pull the arms off the chair every time he went into my mouth.
I dont get really nervous, but at the same time I cant stand the dentist. they keep telling me the same thing over and over, and have since i was 17. My teeth havent changed, and I have yet to get a cavity.
I once dated a girl that NEVER went to a dentist. She had so many cavities that she talked with an echo ..... "You want me to what ... what ...what ...

I had a major fear of dentist caused by the dentist I went to as a child. He hurt me everytime I went to him. He wouldn't wait for the tooth to get numb before he started working on me. I went about 12 yrs without seeing a dentist. I found a good one & spent a small fortune getting my teeth fixed. I have a great dentist now. I have no fear now other than the fear of the cost of the dential work
Go to the dentist. It's not cavities you need to worry about, it's gum disease. Gum disease is what causes most tooth loss in adults. The longer you wait the more damage to the bone and soft tissue. Plus your honey will quit getting close to you because of your nasty, road kill breath. Treatment is not that bad and you can find a dentist that will treat you right.
OK, everybody who is too wussy to go to the dentist, find somebody who has had all their upper or lower teeth pulled and replaced with dentures. Ask them how they like them. Implants are better, but if you think a crown or root canal is expensive, consider $5K-$10K for upper or lower implants, $10K-$20K for the whole works.

Major dislike for dentists here. The last time I went he tried to push a root canal on me for a mere 800.00 bucks, not covered by my wonderful insurance. I noticed the new BMW in his parking place and I figure the payment is around 800.00 per month or one root canal a month.
