I had a good dentist when I was a kid. Never scared or anything. But he was the only one I knew. So when I was about 19, I guess he got himself a business partner, and I was seen by her 2 or 3 times. Didn't know my history, didn't really give a rats behind that I was a regular patient of Dr. Lim for 14 years already. So I stopped going there. I went to a different dentist twice in the last 13 years, and that's it. But I'm thinking about seeing my original dentist one of these days. He left a fixed retainer on my lower teeth from when I had braces. And I should really get my wisdom teeth pulled out. The lower ones are coming in crooked.
I just went to the dentist friday to get my wisdom tooth pulled (only have 1) and it really wasn't bad, they had to use nitrous to get me to calm down, before the needles went in. i am gonna go back and have a cleaning done, haven't been to the dentist in years. I think the pain is the problem, plus I never had insurance before, and now I do.
My 20 daughter had gum/skin graft surgery last year. She flosses, brushes and all that stuff religiously but still ended up with gum disease. I do not have insurance but my state's ACCHESS will pay for cleaning and a few other things until you are age 21. (After that, all they will pay for is teeth pulling)
So, the dentist she went to referred her to a top orthodontist who did work with ACCHESS clients and other hardluck patients. And both fought to have ACCHESS pay for most of it (the orthodontist shouldered the rest) He was quite good with the skin graft and as long as she keeps up with her routine, should keep all of her teeth forever.
However, her mother (me) has lost some teeth over the years from having a set of parents who had a history of gum disease no matter what they did to keep their choppers shiney. (my husband's dad's were good but his mother had problems.....but he got his dad's good genes in that area.)
But not having money to pay for better care is always the pits. Like I said, ACCHESS will pay for adult teeth pulling but that's it.
Earlier last year, I lost some upper front teeth from being hit in the face with a bouncing truck tire while moving some stuff around. So I am looking at a set of uppers eventually. But working hard to keep my lowers intact. The dentist I went to is a good one and does numb the area up before sticking the needle in. I used to be very anxious as I hate needles too but it's not so bad now.
Just a matter of coming up with $1000, though. The dentist makes his own molds, dentures and does the fittings himself. My husband has a dealer who will buy a couple of swords to pay for it.
My son was hired full time county Park Ranger recently and his benefits just came in......including dental. So far, he has inherited his father's good genes.
my teeth never were right and last year i decided to get them fixed before i turned 18 so insurance would help. ive had a lot of fillings and they suck, espcially bein numb for like 4 hours after. i had to get one pulled cause the filling was too deep and it got abseced or however you spell it.now i have braces and they suck, can't eat anything good anymore or drink anything besides water pretty much. bout every 6 weeks they crank on em and they hurt good for about a week. i wouldn't say im afraid of the dentist but hes not my favorite person.
