JUST ONE QUICK QUESTION.
WHAT WILL MY 79 BRONCO WEIGH WITHIN 100 LBS? 351M, C6, NP205.
EVERYTHING STILL INTACT. STOCK WHEEL AND STOCK SIZE TIRES. I'VE GOT SOME DECISIONS TO MAKE. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
MUDDUCK
I can give you a decent approximation, but I'm not sure if I can be within 100 pounds. I had a '78 with the 351, C6, and NP205, and weighed it once on a truck scale - with me and my tools/equipment it weighed in at about 5600 pounds. Without a driver or tools, and taking into account that it had a 4" lift and 33" tires, it would probably weigh perhaps 5000-5100 pounds? Like I said, that's merely a guess at this point - hopefully someone else has a more accurate number. I *think* it was set up that way, but I might have weighed it later when I was running a 6" lift w/35" tires and a built 400...which is why I'm not sure about my numbers. Fun truck, though it had too much horsepower for the drivetrain to handle...when we got rid of it, it was on its 3rd C6 tranny, 3rd NP205 transfer case, and 2nd rear axle. I wouldn't recommend running a 400+ hp engine unless you have deep pockets or a lot of spare parts lying around. :-)
My 1990 XLT is said to weigh 4,750 lbs. I'd say anywhere from that to 5,000 lbs. should be close. It all depends on optional equipment, and the trim level. The lightest version would be a base Custom with the I-6, or a later XL with the 302 V-8. I saw the '80-'86 year Broncos were listed at 4,250 lbs., so they are the lightest built between 1978-1996.The best way to know is put it on a scale. I plan on a EFI460 swap in mine which should weigh about 300lbs. more than the Windsor in it now. The extra added power should offset the vehicle's weight.....and light the rear tires up really well!
the 78-79's have the heavier sheetmetal, along with the 400 which is within 100 lbs of a 460, and the iron gear 205 case (most of em), id say 5100 lbs dry is a good guess
