whistle while idle
98 Ranger w/4.0 is whistling while idle. The whistle is coming from the air intake. The whistle is on idle at 800-1000RPM...will stop whistling when I rev to 1200-1500RPM. If I drive a while the whistle will be gone until I sit and idle for awhile.

Could be a funky IAC. Somtimes they can make sounds that seem like they're coming from the air intake or even from the air filter box:

It does sound like the air filter box...I can bang on it and change the sound.
I just took the tube off of the air filter box while it was running. The sound is coming from inside the air intake tube...kinda has a vibration to it as it whistles and the lower the idle RPM, the louder the whistle/hum
