Pretty common problem.

Take off the cowling around the steering wheel and look to see if the small wire coming out of the shifting arm is unplugged, shorting, or "open" electrically. If so, a replacement shifter arm is available from Ford for around $50 if I recall.

The other day I had my coffee cup tip in a turn and coffee went everwhere, including inside of the OD switch. Can I take it out and clean it?

Rather than take it out to clean it, why not just soak it in distilled water for a bit. Then rinse it with more distilled water. Blow it out to dry it, or just let it evaporate. Coffee should be completely water-soluble.

Be sure it's distilled.

Been there done that and saved the instructions:

Unscrew the tilt lever.
Remove the lower cover.
There is a pin you must press in at the bottom of the ignition switch. It gets exposed when you remove the lower cover. The button (pin) must be depressed with the key in the unlock position.
Then the whole cylinder pops out.
Then the top cover will pop off, and you can get to the stalk. it has a taper pin in it. Tap pin with hammer & punch to loosen.
Unplug the connector and re-install the new stalk or fix the old one.
Shave the upper column cover to not chaff again

I fixed the break in the wiring and i put all back together and there must be more breaks in the wire some where cuase it only works if i wigle the shifter. So i'm going to buy the wire for it from ford, i was just wondering how hard it is or what it takes to change the wire? Or do i have to replace the whole shifting arm? Thanks Rus

This may be a problem too. I have had customers come into our store to replace this piece. Although I'm not sure if they were replacing it because they broke it off or the button was not working.

I'm prety sure the button is working because it will turn on and off in park but as soon as you tilt the steering colume or put it in geer it dosn't want to work very well?? the wire was very britle when i fixed it. It kept breaking when i was trying to fix it, so i'm thinking there must be another break in it somewhere?just wondering how hard it is to change the shifter and wire??

Before replacing it, how did you repair the wire? Does it blow fuses or is the O/D just not working. I had a problem where the wire was too short and it rubbed, eventually shorting out on the metal shifter. I just soldered in a longer piece of wire and covered it in heat wrap. No problems since. The dealership wanted to replace the entire shifter for $200 + labor. I spent $5 on solder and heat tape.
