Tire Question ?

Standard tire is 235/86R/16/Load E...
Can I go to 285 or 265 without hurting anything ?
Also, if I'm not towing do I need Load range E ?
Yokohoma tire or something like that, any body used it or opinion ? I've had good and bad luck with coopers, so any other suggestions ???
Thanks..

Yeah, you can go 265 or 285 on the stock 16x7 wheel.

Load Range D or E is fine.
Main thing to check is the load rating (in pounds) of the tire. Some Load Range D tires are rated for more weight than some Load Range E tires.

I haven't used Yokohama tires.
Goodyear Silent Armor, Mickey Thompsons, BFGs, Kuhmos, and Toyos would be the brands I woiuld look at for an All Terrain or Mud Terrain for your truck.

I'm in the process of deciding which tires to put on my newly acquired '03 Ex, and just saw last night where the Yokohama's typically don't have as high of a tread wear rating as others. Saw some good things regarding the Pirelli tires, though. Still not sure myself yet which is best yet.

OK.....why use an All Terrain tire if I'm just running the highway ?
And will the "D" hold up if I pull my 18ft. flatbed ??

AT's are not necessary if all you do is highway/road mileage, which is also where I am with my vehicle.

As far as the load rating goes, you'll have to look at that for each tire and each manufacturer, as the ratings apparently have some potential discrepancies. These discrepancies may (I'm not sure) be based on comparing P-tires (passenger) to LT-tires (light truck).

i am pretty sure you can do 305s with the stock wheels. Not sure on a 2wd though.

I am going to have to find out though, cuz the wife looked at me and said "I think you should lift your truck and put bigger tires on it"

I paused for a moment to see if she was joking, and then said "Alright, if you really want me to."

Brandon, your truck is a 4x4 though. I think I would have to lift mine to get 305s under it. I know 285s go on fine.

I need to find an affordable lift for my 2wd. I like the fabtech, but even with a friends help and discounts- that would cost me 1k.

David, yep, I missed that part about the 2WD, sorry. BUT, a 285 and a 305 are both 33 inches tall, the difference is a 285/75/16 is 11.5" wide and a 305/70/16 is 12.5 inches wide. (read: you will not gain height going from a 285 to a 305.)

If momma still says get a lift, I think Revtek probably makes a nice one for a SuperDuty

I think I need to call around and see what options are available. I really would like this one:

http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/ap...f250350sd.html

I am running 265/75/16 tires right now. When I first had them put on, they accidentally put 265s on one side and 285s on the other. I really like the look of the 285s but decided to stick with the 265s.

I think the 4" lift with some 305s would give it an awesome look and wouldnt be overkill.

I hate All Season tires.....but that's just me.

I only run more aggressive all terrains or mud terrains.

As for D vs. E......I've seen D range tires rated at close to 4000 lbs. All depends on what individual tire it is.

C, D, E, etc... all just represent max air psi, and ply count.

Load Rating (in pounds) is the most important thing, IMO.

I just got quote today for a 4" lift with 4 new rims 17x9 with Extreme AT 35/12 50R17
$4500. Might have to sell a kidney on ebay.

Dang, that is way over budget for me. I called my buddy, and he can hook me up with Copper ATR 305s installed for $400. Now, if I can just find a place to install a lift at a reasonable price, I may be able to get it done for my b-day this coming month.
